It’s been quite some time since I’ve written, though I’ve been writing to you in my mind for a while. While I’ve missed our interactions and reaching out, it’s been a great time of change, rearrange, introspection, and integration – into another way of being – that continues. How about you, in the midst of shifts? I’m not sure where it’s all going, or what it all means, though it’s sure tremendous for all of us.For me it’s been big changes and redirections, coming out of questioning everything in my life, knowing/not knowing, clarity/confusion, huge leaps forward while grappling with the next step. I’ve given up an abundance of teaching, fallen in love (and caregiving as my man hasn’t being well for some months), writing lots of new material, and recorded 5 songs. Though I wouldn’t wish the pain Anthony’s been through onto anyone, his love, and most all the rest I’m experiencing are the stuff dreams are made of, and answers to my prayers, though I’m honestly super challenged to dig deeper, face and embrace outdated and degraded belief systems within that tell me “I can’t,” “I’m not good enough,” “too much,” etc. Maybe you know these broken records of the mind?   I’m convinced they’re not unique, special – or personal.
Universally, what’s clear is there’s no going back to certain ways of being, and the way forward is what’s in the moment, and in the heart. Though engaged in projects, stillness and self-reflection are serving as great antidotes to what would otherwise have me running on the exhaust fuel of anxiety – under the guise of feeling productive and purposeful. Sound familiar?
The body always knows– and when stressed, overwhelm and exhaustion can lead to feeling run down, and cause stored symptoms in the body to awaken and come forth from dormancy. As someone recovering from adrenal exhaustion and witnessing this in most everyone I work with, its clear that getting loads of rest, keeping the body hydrated, mineralized with a high raw diet, and a summer cleanse are key. Yet, I’ve also discovered that if my heart isn’t engaged in all aspects of life, no amount of raw food or cleansing can make up for it.
Is your heart feeling engaged with life? Do you wake up tired? It may mean you need even more rest as we largely repair with sleep, a cleanse reboot, and some heart exploration. Especially in these times of great change, its important to de-stress, allow the adrenals to rest, take time for more sleep, and tune in within. How much regeneration do you need, on all levels? It depends on the degree the adrenal glands have been (over) used in balance with replenishing them, and how much the heart’s been heeded.
Though I’ve been eating vegan, high to all raw for almost half my life, and fasting, meditating, and exercising for some time, over-working stress has lead to seriously reexamining what’s revving the engines so high – and listening deeper to what my heart is evolving into.  How about you, how’s your heart growing?
Slowing down is giving me space to look at what I’ve been unconsciously running from, open more to love, to trust, and feel fine with not knowing. Did we ever know anyway? It’s refreshing, though scary at times to keep letting go of busyness and business, and to show up for myself, and my beloved in a way that’s more rested, reflective and stable. It feels like an uncoiling, or detangling of knots that has kept my heart protected in a world of working and hiding behind “service.” All the while longing for love (in many forms), togetherness, a sense of family, and yes – romance, feeling acknowledged and loved only the way a man can give a woman, because she’s first taking care of herself and actually available.
Does all this mean I will no longer work with people? Hardly. It just means I’m learning to listen to my body and heart as much as I encourage others, to open like I so want for another, and deepen my own self-love, acknowledgment, acceptance, and trust – just like I want for anyone seeking something beyond the one dimensional satisfaction that a work/protection identity can provide, and the alluring accolades that go with it.
What have you been going through in this past year? Are you too feeling a pull towards what calls you, no matter the stakes? I understand, and emphasize with the trepidation – albeit the excitement – that it goes with.
May the unknown be welcomed with a sense of adventure, fears be acknowledged as great teachers, and even though we may have no idea what we’re doing or where we’re going, may we trust change and not only accept it, and mourn as needed, yet may we also receive the invitation to rise up, grow and love that much more.
